Lecture Capture Technology:
Its Link to Building Successful Online Learning Programs (NEW!)
Presenter: Dr. Karen Rhoda, Associate Dean, Division of Distance Learning, The University of Toledo

Today, nationally ranked institutions as part of their commitment to academic excellence provide support for faculty teaching in online programs. To extend that support and because so many online students never come to campus, institutions like The University of Toledo, have strategically searched for a faculty friendly lecture capture product to better deliver the virtual classroom lecture to their online student populations. Many of the students seeking a higher education cannot commute to campuses in the regular and consistent manner that is demanded of students enrolled in institutions of higher education. This presentation outlines the role Echo 360 is playing in:

1. making the seamless connection for faculty with their online students by extending the traditional classroom lecture to the virtual classroom and

2. impacting students’ retention and learning outcomes.

Putting Echo360 Through The Wringer—
Successful Full Scale Implementation at Purdue University
Presenter: David Eisert, Manager of Emerging Technologies, Purdue University Purdue University began exploring Echo360 in the fall of 2007. Throughout 2008, Echo360 was put through its paces. Security audits, installation requirements, DeepFreeze, product upgrades, changes in technology, etc; all of these were on the list. This talk will cover the process that ITaP (Information Technology at Purdue) went through to prepare and deploy a full campus implementation of Echo360 to over 250 classrooms on the West Lafayette campus.

Enhancing Lectures Through Automated Capture (ELTAC)—
More a way of life than simply capturing lectures
Presenter: David Morris, Director of Higher Education Development, Professor of Business Education, Coventry University and Chair of the ELTAC project The ELTAC project of Coventry University set out to provide an exemplar of institutional implementation of automated lecture capture. During the first year, the ELTAC project conducted a faculty-level trial of Echo360 within the MBA program and Health and Life Sciences, which comprises over half of the combined faculty and student body. Dr. Morris will present the project’s findings to date and how Coventry University, which boasts one of Europe’s largest business schools, plans to move forward with its lecture capture implementation.

Using Lecture Capture to Support Students at Gallaudet University
Presenter: Richard Goodrow, Christian Burke, and Professor Kristen Mulrooney, Gallaudet University The leading institution for the deaf and hard of hearing is also a leading institution for the use of technology in education. This session will cover Gallaudet’s innovative technical deployment that supports visual modes of communication with “press to sign” video cameras and closed captioning. The session will touch on how the automation of the EchoSystem benefits instructors, students and administrators. Switching gears, one faculty member will provide her perspective on lecture capture for over three years, including the impact on her teaching, student performance and grades, and the unexpected benefit it has on second language learners of American Sign Language (ASL).

Student Perspectives on Lecture Capture Technology
Presenter: Michael Lucas, Distance Learning Coordinator This presentation will discuss the student’s perspective, satisfaction and usage statistics of lecture capture at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Since January 2005, students participating in selected course sections utilizing Echo360 capture technology were surveyed to determine how often they accessed the lectures, and their overall user experience. Learn the survey results and how they impacted decisions regarding expansion across the UMass Lowell campus.
