"(The Echo360System) just provides (students) another way to do something. They’re going to listen to something anyway, they might as well listen to a lecture."

(Anaheim CA , InfoComm/ EduComm Show June 19, 2007) - Today Anystream announced that Lynn University has selected Apreso lecture capture platform to give students a virtual remote-control for their learning experience. The Apreso system offers Lynn students an on-demand version of their lectures that can be reviewed from any computer, iPod or MP3 player. Additionally, Lynn professors are enjoying first Apreso - Crestron® room control integration, a feat that resulted in new levels of capture management by enabling faculty to pause and re-start recorded classes as they are being captured.
"Many of our professors are uniquely qualified in multi-modality teaching styles to cater to a wider student body. These varying teaching methods require a level of in-class flexibility," said Derek Parker, Lynn University instructional technologist. “We developed the integration with our Crestron room control system so professors using Apreso would have the real-time ability to cut unwanted content from their recordings with the simple click of a pause button. By adding this ability, our faculty can decide what content from their lectures is capture-worthy. Giving them that added level of control has resulted in rapid enthusiastic adoption."
Invisible in the classroom, Apreso captures the audio and video of a professor synchronized with projected visual aids to create a rich media version of the lecture accessible from any computer through Lynn ’s Blackboard course management system. With DVD-like controls and scene-based navigation, Lynn students rewind and review difficult course material, skip through concepts they comprehend, and even take their lectures on-the-go by downloading them to their iPod.
Used by an array of Lynn students, the Apreso technology has proven to be especially helpful to students with learning disabilities enrolled in classes at Lynn ’s Institute for Achievement and Learning.
"Students with learning differences benefit from the repetitious multi-sensory playback of powerful lectures,” said Parker. "Apreso aligns with the charter of our institute because it allows our students to learn in a way that works for them. Auditory learners can listen to lectures over and over while visual learners benefit from the full-motion capture of a professor’s visual aids. With Apreso, students have an infinite number of opportunities to grasp a concept through an interface similar to a screen-in-screen television and DVD player."
Lynn University , a technology innovator, has equipped over 70 percent of its classrooms with advanced technology. By adding Apreso to their robust outfit, they join over 150 of the world’s top higher education institutions to identify the benefits of Apreso’s rich media lecture capture. Find out more about Lynn University ’s new technology initiative, the Crestron room control integration, and how Apreso caters to unique learning styles and on-the-go students by visiting the ApresOasis at EduComm 2007 in the Anaheim Marriott Marquis Ballroom June 19–21.
